    M1918A2 BAR poser...

    Hi All,

Have a chance to buy a non-shooter BAR for $2100 here locally. It's a Philadelphia Ordnance 80% rec'r with all other parts being Royal Typewriter stuff, it also comes with a pouch belt and a bunch of mags. I'm checking to see what's involved (legally) in machining the rec'r to semi-auto status. From what I can tell, an individual can do this for personal use, but not to sell. I'm ASSuming once done, it would need to be inspected and issued a serial number? Who does this, local LEOs?

So, I guess after buying it (if it happens), I'll have the choice of: parting it out, keeping it as a wall-hanger, or finishing thr rec'r for a shooter.

Any advice here? I've seen wall-hangers go thru GB for more $$$...

If you ever want it as a semi-auto shooter , just get an OOW semi receiver kit .
Yes it is expensive , but they have done all the redesigning and have BATFs approval on their design and all the modified parts are in the kit .
Just buy a BAR kit of your liking and it's about a one day build if you have the proper tools .

    Guys,

I just finished my 1918 A2 BAR build. USAicon semi-auto closed bolt. I used a parts kit and the Phila. Ord. 80% receiver. It was a lot of machining work. Emmagee 1917 is right unless you are a glutton for punishment, like me, if you have the kit, get the Ohio Ord. complete receiver. Ohio Ordnance's BAR patents ran out in 2015.

I wanted the WWII version, New Englandicon Small Arms. Has a NESA 6-44 Barrel.

Machining out a basic blank receiver is a simple thing, if you have a CNC machine and the line drawings. All you do is input and set up. Might take about 30 hours of solid machine work with a 20 bit auto change head CNC mill. Doing it by hand on a knee or smaller would take you until rapture and be just a smidge out of whack everywhere...I bet. I'd buy a receiver and get changing.

My last BAR was a NESA, not nearly s pretty as this one though.
    Regards, Jim

    Semi IBM BAR

I wanted to post here so that I could give JoeH credit for helping me get started with my BAR build. It is a closed bolt semi design like OOWs built from a demilled kit. I got to test fire it today. I still have some fiddling to do but I could not be happier with the way this came out.

Looks like it worked just fine. I'd like to try a closed bolt to see the difference in the mechanics, the recoil.

Hi Jim, its a sweet shooter. The modified M1icon carbine trigger came out really nice. If you can't find one near you, come down to Ohio and look me up. You can shoot this one.

I'd need a truck full of ammo so we could warm it up properly...
