    Kit Built A1 Replica

So about a month/month and a half ago a local retailer had a screaming deal on A1 parts kits. I had been eyeing one for awhile, bought an A2 copy and forgot, then wound up pulling the trigger on these kits/ Fortunately I was able to not only get a deal on the kit, but a receiver too as it was a blem (look close and you'll see why) and quickly get my hands on a barrel.

Barrel is new production, I may eventually swap it out with a real Colt at some point down the road as I am not pleased with the FSB quality (poor pin fit, wrong height) that came on the barrel. Overall I am happy, I've gotten really nice accuracy at 25 from this gun but the real test will come at a 100 yard shoot tomorrow. The gun is built mostly with kit parts... I was told these post Vietnam but not the country of origin.

Nice rifle, looks correct for a 1970s production.

Thanks for the compliments. The gun shot okay at the match; it seems I need to file the front post more to get elevation set. The kits were for sale by a local shop; they had been sitting on them for awhile at around $450 but blew them out for about $250 and I couldn't get the CC out fast enough, they only lasted about two hours. I know of some other vendors who had them when I was price shopping but they are either now sold out or far more expensive ($600-800).

That's interesting, it should have lots of room to adjust.

Nice build! Welcome to the retro black rifle disease. I have two retro ARs and a retro AK.

Nope, the front sight block that came on the barrel, despite not being marked, is an F-size (.040") higher... so with the post bottomed out it's still too high, about 2.25" below POA at 25 yards whereas I shoot for about 1.25-1.5" for a roughly 200 yard zero.

And yes, retro black rifles are a disease. I started with a parts mutt A2 that is now mostly correct except the for the flash hider (XM16 style 3 prong) which is more or less stuck on there. Funny enough the reason I bought it was I couldn't build one for the price I bought it for. Well this one came in at the exact same price! Down the road I'd like to do a 9mm (if I don't pull the trigger on a Taurus CT9) or a dedicated 22LR build.
