I believe that the Germans applied a special type of paint to some of their tanks, towards the end of the war, with the intention of helping to stop explosive devices being "stuck" to the sides of the tank.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. Zimmerit anti magnetic coating it was a coating not a paint you can see it on Tigers like a rippled affect, the logs and wood like spare tracks road wheels were meant to try and stop the penetration of an A.P round or defeat the shaped charge explosion of a HEAT projectile whether it be cannon, panzerfaust or panzerschrek. Interesting to note that little shield on top of the gun mantlet 2nd pic cannot say if it was for splinter protection I would say it is a field mod. The turret would not otherwise be sealed if there was a gap between the mantlet/turret interior see pic 3 as the Tiger had wading capabilities to @4 meters I think not bad for a WWII 65 tonne tank.

    Germans

The Germans had a badge awarded for destroying a tank single handed, usually with a sticky mine clapped onto the side. When you got 5, you swapped them for a silver badge. The record was 21 kills on the Russianicon front.
