    Upper Canada Colts

I thought some of you might enjoy seeing some Milsurps from an earlier era. The attached photos are Upper Canadaicon 1851 London Navy Colts purchased by the Canadian government circa 1858.
Canada purchased some 800 Colt Navy revolvers to arm the cavalry units in Upper Canada (Ontario) and Lower Canada (Quebec). Each cavalry unit trooper was issued one cavalry carbine, one 1851 Colt Navy revolver c/w holster and cartridge pouch, and sword with belt. The pistols in the photos are from K Troop (St Thomas Ontario), L Troop (London Ontario) and F Troop (Cornwall), the swords pictured are both K troop swords the one marked K17 would have been issued with the pistol marked K17, the two were re united after some 150 years purchased 10 years apart from different individuals. K 17 has mismatched scabbard marked K9 the second K troop sword has a mismatched scabbard from L troop marked L9

Very nice collection indeed, the Colts look to be in very good condition too.

Do you shoot any of the Navy's?

Scared of blowing one up, I have seen the results in other pieces, I enjoy shooting black powder in modern reproductions though.

Nice looking collection. I was raised in that area so can picture all of the towns you mention, when I was a kid it all seemed like fairy tales, upper Canadaicon... Having traveled through and examined all of it brings things like this home. I've been through old Ft Henry and looked in all the corners for just such things. Nicely marked too, I wouldn't shoot them either.
    Regards, Jim
