ross 1910 military or civilian
hello, I have a ross 1910 im looking to restore (its missing everything but the stock), but not sure it is military or civilian model. what got me wondering was that my rifle lack of stripper clip guide and no sign of any grinding or mismatched finish where they should be. Also seems to lack the pin to prevent mis-assembly. It also has a large dovetail cut for a rear sight on the barrel but imagine this was done after being used.

well s***, looks like the barrel is cut, didnt bother to measure since the barrel was roughly the same as my other military rifles, didn't bother measuring the barrel until now... only about 25 inches 
looks like its gonna stay a sporter.....

The large dovetail on the barrel as you describe it sounds like a Model E-10 sporter to me. Is there a serial number on the barrel just ahead of the receiver on the opposite side from the bolt handle? Or is this a .280 M10 or the remains thereof?

Could be a 1910-R with the dovetail cut on the barrel.
Pictures would be a big help in identifying what you actually have.

You are correct thank you. I was thinking of the dovetail block on the .280 M10. If the cut in the barrel is like that of a Winchester buckhorn, about half an inch wide at the bottom of the slot, then could be a Model R.
The Model E had a two-leaf "express" sight, or at least mine does, so no dovetail there unless someone removed the leafs and milled out their base. This is an M10 from the Porter rear sight, but the barrel sight base is basically the same.
