A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Cabela's was overflowing with ammo when I went. Quantities I've literally never seen in my 5 years of gun ownership. 9mm, .223, and primers in particular were there in absurd quantities. I think a lot of shops, big and small, stocked up and held back inventory so there will be plenty of variety this holiday season (though I suspect Christmas was not exactly why they bought all that inventory). There is tons of production right now for demand that I suspect is not going to be there; I imagine come January the real sales will get going depending on how Christmas goes. AR items, especially cheap stuff, could take a real hit in particular. However the auction I just went to tells me people are not quite thinking the market is heading for a correction - ammo prices remained high and guns were unusually over priced for this particular auction.

Let's see where it goes first...before breathing a sigh of relief. Up here it isn't that much different in the high priced things...

I don't think it's Christmas why all of sudden these prices dropped. These 2 particular Stores out of several here that were always in Competition with each other some were on Sale, but the Majority prices just dropped. I talked to a couple of guys from each Store late this evening and both basically said the same thing. The inventory they are carrying is quite large and both Stores were making good money then Sales just dropped. I just think here in Texas where you can have as many as you want then all of sudden now you can get a Real nice one for 500 to a 1000.00 less I'm just wondering what's going on, but BAR might be correct it's still a wait and see. Maybe it's that they just need to move some of the heavy inventory they are carrying. Either way it's a Great time to pick up some Nice parts for a build.

Supply and demand. With a new gun friendly administration coming into the picture, few are now fearful they will lose the ability to purchase certain types of firearms or ammunition. So they are no longer stockpiling or hoarding them. Many will even start to sell as they don't feel an urgent threat anymore. So prices on AR's and AK's are likely to return to pre-crisis numbers whether the crisis was real or imagined.

My hope is that imports are allowed again. I want an SVT-40 something fierce but am not going to pay in excess of $1000 for one. Get them back down to $400-$500 and I'm in.

I doubt the majority of things I'm interested in will be greatly impacted. I did not see a massive increase in price for most surplus bolt actions. I would expect to see a second resurgence in Mosin Nagants as the floodgates are opened again but perhaps that source dried up prior to the import ban. It did seem as if the quality was going downhill.

But then again, those at the other end of the political spectrum may now find themselves fearful enough of others to overcome their fear of firearms. I don't really see that happening though.
