    Canadian Markings??

These pictures have been doing the rounds on Facebook because the owner isn't sure what they are or represent.
I've certainly never seen the circle with a C inside on the wrist strap of a No.4. or indeed the word SURREY stamped on the barrel.

    Canadianicon target rifle?

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Several of our scopes are used in the CMP Vintage Sniper competition on top of 1903 rifles. Brian Dick ... "Surrey" was a model / grade of sported rifle... marketed in Canadaicon

The N prefix and lack of proper Britishicon manufacturer codings seem to be a mid/late '50s "commercial" No4Mk2 which has been previously discussed here.

The "circled C" is not a Canadian military/competition marking, it would be an "oval C".

I have a similar rifle with serial N1767, I was told by the previous owner that it was part of a batch of about 50 rifles hand assembled[new parts] for Service Rifle competition in the early 1960`s,my one was used in the NZicon Navy, don`t know who or where they were assembled. There is another similar rifle here in NZ. All the woodwork of mine is matching, hand numbered in pencil. Stuart.

Maybe Naval issue, both "Surrey" and "Stuart" are names of ships.

The "Surrey", "Suffolk" and "Sussex" conversions were low-budget sporterizations of No.1 and No.4 Rifles made up in the 1950s and perhaps 60s. I always thought they were done by Parker Hale, but perhaps not?
