    A new book today

It's a long way to Tipperary By McEwen (Scarce) ISBN 9780954441654
Another for my library only got it today had a quick gander very touching information from these unsung heroines from all parts of the Commonwealth not just the UKicon & Ireland but also AUS & N.Z are there as well as other dominions of the empire.

In a few words from the book; "For those that we knew were to far gone and wont make it which you got to recognize we gave them a shot of morphia and made them comfortable" and "In a general hospital you got used to the dying the old and infirm but here we had the flower of youth being taken away from us. It is pitifully sad."

In the roll of honour 373 gave their lives during the war from various causes either disease, illness or drowning after being torpedoed.
Some were injured by shrapnel and bullets in one case she had her right calf blown off and could only get a part pension $20 GBP for a year Good grief!

Not everything happens at the front, not every one was a soldier who saw the horrors of war, or who also gave the ultimate sacrifice. (My italics)

That looks like a very interesting read. I'll have to keep an eye out for that.
I find the personal accounts of the rank and file are more interesting than the overall campaign histories.

Very well said! Constant exposure to the ilk's of war, sickness, trauma, death. Not unlike our nurses of today. Though they may not be in a field hospital, nurses are always on the front line even before they know it. SARS Ebola Cancer etc.
