Was your Vickers always an 8mm?

My Vickers is also blued. It’s a Colt, originally made in .30-06 Springfield. I have barrels for .30-06, 8mm Mauser, 7.62x54R and .303.

The Iraqi contract was in 8mm Mauser. Only a small number exported there. I USED to own Serial Number: I.K 60.

The production numbers for guns is in Dolf Goldsmiths book. The grand Old Lady of No Mans Land.
I do not own a copy to refer to for precise figures myself.
But I am SURE other Forum Members are fortunate to own a copy themselves?

Slightly off topic, please excuse, but one of my projects which I have lined up is to convert a Vickers/Lewis chest to fit a U.K. deactivated Russianicon 1910 Maxim HMG. The 1910 Maxim does fit, just, inside the chest but I need to stretch the chest downwards by about 1" in order to close the lid. The chest requires a completely new bottom in any case and some repairs and so it doesn't seem to matter so much about making a few extra alterations to it in the process.

I will start a new thread with more pictures when work gets underway with this project in earnest.

Blue Vickers 8mm. I got a few of the Colt 3006 guns out of Israel in the 70s. 10 if I remember. They are here
in Canadaicon somewhere. Nice guns, they packed the spares with mg42 spares. Just dumped them in from the
storage boxes into big crates. Had a hell of a time assembling them.

Matter of fact, that used to be one of the tests for a MG course. You were sat in an Armored Pers Carrier coffin and then a machine gun's parts were dumped in with you. There were various other weapons parts too...the lid was closed and you worked in the dark. Headspace and timing in the dark...best be correct.

Well, just start a fresh pot of coffee and slowly pick away...assemble by process of elimination...separate piles of parts... Sounds like a good day of light work for a couple of interested parties.

The Turkishicon 8mm Vickers were a very interesting story. I wrote the story of the Turkish Vickers for of Dolf's book and there was probably another 20 pages info but as anyone doing a book knows there is a cut off point with information and how much you can put in a book.
You can go into information overload as we have seen time and time again with some arms authors.
Blake Stevens, Collector Grade Publications, who published Dolf's Vickers book is one of the best in the arms publishing business.
Blake knows that people want, what they will pay for and when to end the book.
There was also the Egyptian Vickers contract in 8mm and those guns were all prefixed with E.T. before the serial number. The Egyptian guns were all marked 7.92/303 on the rear water jacket/trunnion.
I think there are two Egyptian Vickers guns in Canadaicon and three or four, that I know of, in the USAicon. I believe I saw one Egyptian deac in the UKicon some years ago but cannot remember who had it or where.
Just as an aside, the title of Dolf's Vickers book: The Grand Old Lady of No Man's Land was my suggestion.
