Yes, you are probably right...it might be birch and not beechwood. Here's my SA stock.

Just wondering out loud if the 'AAC' might be 'Augusta Arsenal, C inspector' as in a rebuild. Typically the AAs were marked on the side of the stock under the rear sight but perhaps this was years later?

The AAC shown in the sling well would not be for Augusta. The stock does not look like a Birch stock as the stain used is too smooth. Birch is a tough wood to stain uniformly and comes out blotchy looking. This stock is nice and uniform. I would guess it's most likely a German or Austrian made stock.
