    IHC receiver marking

First of all hello to everyone. I'm longtime shooter (bullseye, highpower, IPSC, PPC, F-class) but very new to Garands.

Long story but I acquired a SA over 25 years ago from a friend and it's been in the back of the safe ever since. Recently I got it out and started doing research. During research I found IHC made garands and they were all made in Evansville, my home town. So the search started. I found one on auction w/o the correct stock but everything else seems to be IHC but possibly not for the correct serial range. Bolt, op rod & trig group are late. Everything else that's verifiable appears to be correct. It's possibly this could have been a rejected rifle and sat in the corner of the rebuild area for a long time since its documented IH had problems. ... or someone attempted to make it "correct" without the proper knowledge.
Here's my dilemma. It does not appear to me to be a welded receiver but from the posts I've read and the books I've seen if it's an "F" receiver its marked "IHC F-6528291". Mine is D6528291-F with the F at the end and no other marks. Does anyone else' have this marking? Serial is 4544896 which should be early 54. Barrel is LMR 7 53 w/ punch.

I believe it may have been a honor guard gun as the stock was really grimy, buttplate is 80% worn smooth and barrel is toast (10+++). Mechanically its in great shape.

I've got a bazillion questions but figured I'd start with this one
    Thanks in advance
    Dan

    Welcome to the forum.

If welded then it would have been stripped to bits and someone reassembled it later. It could also have been put together at any time by anyone. The odds of it sitting in the arsenal untouched are nil. Pics here would be priceless.

I believe you are asking if there are IHC M1icon receiver markings without the 'IHC' prefix or suffix.
I have IHC 4523997 which has a drawing number of D6528291-D, no IHC.

Both Tom in NJ and myself have a friend, Charles Redfield who collects the IHC receiver variations, Springfield and HRA and IHC , believe there are five variations ?

I use to here that the IHC M1icon rifles were the best gift to the third world nations and a good way to purge them out of the US system

Wayne Bradford's over on the CMPicon forum has a vast knowledge of the IHC rifles.
I think there are seven variations of receiver markings and serial blocks between IHC, SA, and HRA.

Bradford was going to publish a book on the IHC rifles, keeps talking about every year now, maybe someday it will happen.

Thanks for the responses. I'll contact Wayne over at CMPicon. I have a tendency to ramble and convolute the issue so I'll try again.

BAR, I agree about the odds. This is definitely not a documented collector. The stock is wrong but it doesn't have any import or arsenal marks. Lots of things can happen over 60 yrs. I only got it for the historical value. I went to Louisville show yesterday and one gentleman was nice enough to let me scrounge thru his parts. I found several hammer pins and a couple of sight screws.

My receiver is D6528291-F. All other "F" receivers that I've seen mentioned are the IHC F 6528291 variety. Just curious if anyone else had the same receiver marking as mine.
