Never heard of one causing a fire. They are merely small heat-generators that lower the RH by raising the temp ... a low-wattage incandescent light bulb would serve the same purpose in addition to providing a bit of light.

I think that the primary value of the heater sticks is by slightly raising the interior-materials temp over that of the exterior so that when you open the door and the outside air enters, the moisture in that air does not condense on the metal surfaces inside.

I have my gunsafes outfitted with one/each heater stick, Eva-Dry DH and small desk fan to keep the air constantly moving inside the box (the fans also add a bit of heat).

    HenryB,

Your safe is too neat. Fill it up.

One of three. I don't leave room for humidity.

Ahhhh ... the Thread is going to morph into a gunsafe showcase.

Here is a pic of my north gunsafe that I took about a decade ago.

    Good guess, Jim, but ...

... lessee , in that pic the right side is occupied by a mixture of M1s, M1917s, 03A3s, 03s and a couple of SKSs ... I think that this pic predated any of my M14icon Variant Builds and I know that it is before I got my two M1 Carbines which I acquired in Summer'07.

On the left, the front TALL row is one MN91/30 and 3 of my SVT-40s. The remainder is an assortment of Lee-Enfields, K98ks, a coupla of MN M38s & Mauser M48s, an MN M39 and an FR8.

Those white-painted dividers that I made can each accomodate 24 longguns, so this "48-gun" gunsafe actually is a 48-gun gunsafe.
