No5 Mk1 Transit Chest

Was inspired by a No4 Mk1 T transit chest so I built one for my BSA 1945 No5 Mk1
Came out pretty well. Added compartments to house the original cleaning kit, sling, bandolier and No 5 Mk1 bayonet. Just though I would share.

I seem to recall that there was a transit chest fot them but that it held 5(?) at a time. Used to see them stacked up in the corner of a store and the only time anyone noticed them was when the bottom one collapsed due to the white ants eating the guts out of them.

Hi Peter. Thanks for the info. I recall reading that there was a transit chest manufactured that housed five No5 Mk1 rifles. Cannot find a picture of one. Would be interesting to see what it looks like.

It looks like an excellent job for a "first of a kind" because of a few variables to get right.

What about the spare magazines?

Thanks for all the feedback. There is a space to create a compartment for spare magazines. Will update photos when done. Any other suggestions please let me know.

Where you have your gauze tin I would run a thin piece of say flag tape like the surveyors put onto say a star picket so the tin sits on it with the tape forming a "U" then just pull the tab and up she comes rather than a tight squeeze with the fingers. Also the pine may need to have a dose of BLO/Mineral Turps mix so it is impervious to the ingress of moisture as it seems the width gap is fairly tight between the risers if they swell then it may be a bit tardy to get the blocks to slide but I commend you on the build looks really good.

Thanks for all the great suggestions gentlemen. Jim I have seen reference of a no5 mk1 rifle "accessory kit" including a......spare mag.
