    Ithaca 37 stock markings?

At a gun show the other day and bought this 1970 parkerized Ithaca 37-with 20" barrel, off of a walk-in.
Stock markings have U.S.iconN , 67+mushroom stamp and U.S. + mushroom stamp underneath stock grip/cap area.
Has any one seen these stamped style martial (US/USN with mushroom) markings before? Was thinking some previous owner may have added them to make it look like it was used in military service but I'm not so sure.

Thanks, I would appreciate any help you guys might have to offer. I was thinking some previous owner may have added the markings to make it look like it was used in military service but I'm not so sure. Perhaps it was formerly an MP or Shore Patrol gun.

I have a 37 DS Police that looks a lot like yours, except for the rifle sights and oiled stock (no varnish). My gun is in nearly new state and is devoid of stock stampings but then, it was obviously never issued.

I still think the markings have been added recently, but am surprised that no one else has come on with current or definitive info...there are some here that will know.

The Ithaca has always been among my very favorite shotguns. Yours is a nice clean example too...

There are no known genuine military Model 37 shotguns with markings on the stock. The sling swivel attachments on the gun in question are not GI. Your initial impressions about the gun are correct.
