Little Hand Loading System For Carcano 6,5x52

    Good evening gentlemen,

roughly 20 years ago I bought a hand loading system for the Carcano.
At that time I had no experience with reloading, and did't want to invest too much for a start.
I guess I found some ad in a gun magazine and so I decided to buy this VHS hand loading system.
The ad said that it was available for quite a few calibers and that, if required, sending samples of the ammo you wanted to reload, the importer could get you the system in your caliber of choice.
The VHS is extremely compact and works very well.

In the pictures below you can see the whole system, comprising a main tool for decapping, resizing and recapping, plus a secondary unit for powder filling and bullet seating (the bullet "pusher" is length-adjustable).
The resizing and decapping is done by screwing the upper part of the main unit on the lower one. Once done, you take off the shell, tap out the spent primer, put a new one in the small recess, insert the resized shell in the shell holder and turn the lower knob tu press the primer in the pocket. Easy and fast.
You then have to fill the shell with powder through the transparent or white "tube" and then seat the bullet (again through the same tube).
The white unit is "home made" from teflon in a workshop close to home, because the original one would accept only .264 bullets, while I use the original military ones in .268.
This is the only operation you have to do with a hammer.

It is slow loading, but you have everything in a very sturdy, incredibly easy to use tool. I tried to find these "dies" for other calibers lately, but I can't even find info on the Internet. It looks like this system never even existed.
    Any of you knows it?
Or knows where to find it now?

Please do not kill me for the mistake in the title. I know it is 6,5x52. Just made a writing mistake.......

Neat item, and quite workable if you live in a cabin somewhere and need evening's entertainment...like our Lee Loadall.

    Hi Jim,
that's the other reason I bought it at that time.
I lived in a small flat and could not put a working bench with press etc. anywhere.
All I had together with that is a nice RCBS scale. That's all.
I've been loading for the Carcano with that thing since then and still do.
    Works just great.
    Have a nice Sunday.

Is it easy to buy the original .268 bullets in Italyicon? We do not have easy access to good bullets for the Carcano in the USAicon. Thanks EDG

    Hello Sir,

I live quite close to the battlefields of Eastern and North-Eastern Italy, so here there are lots of folks who roam them and bring back loads of ammo.
They then take the rounds apart and, usually, keep the bullets (that's what my gun shop owner told me). Some even dry out the powder and reload with it, allegedly.
In any case, I normally see they have them in the shop.
I made a bulk buy 20 years ago and still have a few hundred, but I can ask.
Just the price might be a little high. I don't think prohibitive (talking with the Italianicon prices in mind), but still anything but cheap.

Maybe I'll go tomorrow for some info and will certainly ask and let you know.
I don't know how that could be for shipments overseas, but I'll ask also about that.

    Have a nice evening!

Hello Ovidio I appreciate your checking. I am in no hurry. It would be good to find a source for the correct bullets. A few million rounds were manufactured in the US during the 1950s. This ammunition was manufactured by Western Cartridge Company. It is relatively rare now.

    surplus 6,5mm in the US

Back during the late 1950's and 1960's there was a lot of this "white box" 6,5 Carcano around. Sometimes called the "Oswald/JFK ammo" by collectorsAttachment 81989

I just digged these out from the bottom of my safe.
I found them at my Granpa's home, hidden behind a library, together with a Beretta 34, a MAB (with the perforated barrel cover, great gun), a couple of bayonets and a few other things.
The MAB and the Beretta have since disappeared in the well we had in the garden, what a pity.
