K98 vs. M48

I know each individual rifle is different, but in terms of accuracy, is the K98 a better shooter than the M48 or vice versa?

They are so close it comes down to individual rifle condition. If however accuracy is your game - Swede m96 is the Mauser you want.

That what I figured... And no, I'm not stressing it. It was a question that came from a debate I overheard last week.

Having shoot in and scored military rifle matches once a week for over 20 years, I can state this . It all comes down to the ammo . A very few types of surplus ammo are accurate enough to place . A really good reloader can win with a lot of different types of rifles . A poor reloader can do really bad with good rifles . Many K98k's shot sub 1 inch 5-shot 100 yard groups , on demand . M-48's were good , but not as good OVERALL as K98k's .

As others have stated, it's the rifle and ammo. I have "dead" beer cans that can relate to both the 98K and the M48...

I would say it's probably a bit easier to get a good shooting M48 than a good shooting K98k. Most of the M48s were never heavily used if they got used at all, and are still all matching plus typically clean. A lot of K98ks you see are Russian Captured guns with mismatched stocks, and stock fit is critical for good performance on a K98k, or any Mauser action. That said typically you can get a rough K98k shooting good with a little patience and time.
