    1941 Long Branch

So today I bought a Long Branch No4 MK1 for $400. It has one of the brightest bores I've ever seen on an Enfield, not to mention every part matches, even magazine. What confuses me is the barrel is marked 42. Also, there is TT marked on the stock, magazine, and trigger guard. Any information about these rifles would be awesome, as I don't know as much as I should. Thanks

The action could come from end year and the barrel from beginning year...nice rifle.

a large proportion of the 1941 dated LB actions were fitted with 1942 dated barrels.

I would suggest around 1/2 of the approx. 15,000 1941 dated actions are fitted with 1942 dated barrels.

If your rifle serial number is 0L1 to 0L9999 it is in the first 9,999 rifles manufactured.

If your number is 1L0 you have rifle serial number 10,000...

You got it for about a quarter of the going rate up here. A rare piece, so well done.

Corwin Arms recently sold two '41's for around $1000.00. No idea how original they were although I believe they both indicated matching bolts. I sat with finger poise to strike but the info given was minimal (and I still don't have a '41 LB).

Shouldn't a '41 have the early cocking piece? This is what's on my '42 LB MK1*.

As far as we know, yes, but such things often got changed in service. Cocking piece gets a little loose on the firing pin and another gets swapped on instead of punching the end of the pin?

I see yours has the early grooved trigger as well. What other early features does it have? A 1L---- or 2L---- rifle?

I assume it got that paint job in U.K. service?

    None that I'm aware of.

Nice rifle and great price! You stole that thing! Does it have a waisted front sight? Brass butt plate? Hinged front band? I need to study the serial number list and see when they changed from brass to the alloy. Is the backsight marked LB?
