Use only top quality ammo in your gun. A bulged barrel would really spoil your new M1921! If you want a shooter then go for a much cheaper M1928A1 or M1A1icon, or a West Hurley late production job.

Need some help on an early Thompson part

I have had this "new" condition magazine catch for a very long time, do not even remember where it came from. My question: Could this be an early Colt Model 1921 magazine catch or a very early Savage 1928 magazine catch. Did Savage mark the early production parts with the letter S - this one is not marked. The key might be in the checkering pattern ? Attachment 80552Attachment 80553Attachment 80554

Do know any of the history after it went to Auto-Ordnance’s salesman G. G. Rorke?

Yes, it was one of the 'East Side' guns that subsequently found their way to Ireland. It is believed to one of the guns from the County Mayo cache that was discovered about 1942. The Irish Police put about 8 of them through the old UKicon auction house of Weller & Dufty in 1982. This is the second Irish Thompson I have owned, the first being a P J Gentry gun (#609) from the first auction but it was in poor (but working) condition and had obviously been buried for some time. I onsold it to buy my better one in 1983.

That's very neat, I read the whole thing about that in Tracy Hill's book.

Here's my mag catch on S68038, I don't remember an "S" on that part though. I think I'd have seen it.

photo of rear of 1921 barrel serial number

This barrel came out of Chicago many years ago, no idea what happened to the weapon, nice bore too. The barrel serial number 280 could be one of the IRA Thompsons ?Attachment 80575Attachment 80574Attachment 80573
