    Thompson canvas case

This was a WWII (airborne?) case designed for the '27-28 Thompson sub-machine gun models with the detachable butt stock. About 2.5' in length with a number of pouches for magazines. It was canvas, in a light desert color.

Any ideas as to value or where I might find a value?

Are you referring to a Griswold bag? If you have pics it would help... Price would depend on where you find it. I'm guessing the first one?

    Pics

Don't have pics (item is with my Dad), but it is similar to the first pic. But USGI. The second pic you have looks like a drop-bag. Don't think I've seen one so short.

The short ones were cropped for the job. Later they just folded over and cinched them. The first one is available as a copy from IMA... International Military Antiques | Military Collectibles, Militaria, Antique Guns, 400 years of Military History for Sale ima-usa.com

You will, obviously, need to ascertain whether the example which you have is an original or a copy before you can establish any sort of value. The only way that Forum members can help you discover if it's an original is if you can provide some pictures of it.

Let's assume it is an original (which it is). How much? All I want is a ballpark figure so my Dad does not give it away.

It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it, like anything else. It's very difficult for anyone to give you an idea of the value for it without actually seeing a picture.
