1948 8mm 98 ?

Hello- just given a 1948 8mm 98, below that is cal792 - p in box- r in box, below that made_ germany- it has a crest on top of recever,a sword and what i think is a scaber crossing- but the scaber has what looks to have a axe head on it, other side has the 1948- the 8 is real deep and other numbers are much lighter stuck, and has two "o" next to 8 also( one next to it and one above it) it has W1222 stamped in ever thing(must be SN#) wood was replaced by a sport model, but still has rear sights, any body got a idel what i got- im more in to US Carbines and kind in the dark on this one-thanks Roger

Your info is not clear to me. What is a scaber crossing? Can you do a picture of crest?

Probably means the Guardia Civil crest----the Fasces looks like a scabbard, if one is unfamiliar with the fasces.
So it's going to be a La Coruna M43 and the "made_germany" is a fantasy/marketing device.
The one I photographed is also a "W" prefix, by the way.

Kinko your Pic is the same as my, is the guardia civil crest on all Post war 98? Thanks i didn't know what the right name for the fasces (still don't know what it means but at least know the name) LaCoruna M 43 is the name of maker and model ? did this rifle use any war years part or was it all post years parts, and did it have a strate bolt? my has been heated and bent down, just woundering- thanks for the info-Roger

La Coruña is the Spanish Arsenal where the rifle was made. It is a Modelo 1943, and uses a Mauser Model 98 action, made in Spain under license. It closely resembles the German K.98k, but is not identical.

The crest is the Falangist crest, a sword and the "fasces". The "fasces" in Roman times was the symbol of the consuls, showing their authority to punish lawbreakers. The fasces was a bundle of sticks, wrapped around an ax. The sticks symbolized the power to beat; the ax symbolized the power to execute. The sword indicates a defense of the Fascist (Franco) government. Mussolini adopted the fasces as his "Fascist" (from "fasces") symbol, and Franco got it from him.

The bundled sticks also symbolized the power of the people through their unity. The Roman Fasces was white birch rods around an Axe tied together with red ribbon.
