    Early 1942 Remington 1903

Hi folks, I recently got offered what appears to be an original 1903, serial is 30550xx with a barrel date of 1-42. My only concern is the stock. It has has no RLB or ordinance wheel cartouche but has the circle P under the wrist. It's a S stock void of the hand guard slots typically seen in replacement stocks. Is it possible that it never received the stamps? Wear characteristics look uniform through out the rifle, and no signs of Samsung

    Cheers

Just post them, or at least the ones showing any markings or characteristics.

Another thing to do ...look at the right side of the rifle from the front sight to the buttplate. There should be R stamps on the upper band, lower band, rear sight moveable base, windage knob (maybe) sight binding screw and trigger guard. If the R stamp is missing, the part is most likely a replacement.

I passed on it, I'm quite confident in verifying 1903's, all I really wanted to know if there's known original examples with out RLB or later FJA cartouche. Decided in the end I want a earlier Remington 1903 with the RLB inspection

The rifle is very likely a mixmaster. The stock might have been put on as a "local unit" repair or by a previous owner. It would have been interesting to see if the "metal" was original or not.

Send me a pm with your email, being that I didn't buy the rifle I don't want to post the sellers pics. I instead picked up another 1903A4, needed another one like a kick in the nuts but I just can't say no to WWII sniper rifles.

    Cheers
