    Springfield Model M1898 Questions

    Hello,
I'm in possession of my dad's rifle.
    It's stamped 'U.S. Model 1898 Springfield Armory (+serial no.)'

Researching the internet, I'm assuming it is a Kragicon - Jorgenson (sp?)

    I'm in search of these three accessories for this rifle;
    1) Would be the sling. (Org. is dry rotted)
    2) The bayonet.
    3) Cleaning kit. (fitting into buttstock)

In each of these, What is appropriate and/or acceptable for this era rifle ?
There is just way too much info out there to process.

Also, Is there a good repro manual w/exploded diagrams out there that would be useful for stripping and proper cleaning ?

    Thank You!

Welcome to the forum. There are repro rods, three piece available with the oil bottle from Numrich and they ain't bad. Affordable too. The sling could be had as a repro through a couple sources, https://www.amazon.com/Leather-Sprin.../dp/B00ANTV8VI What Price Glory - US Mills Web Sling for Krag and Springfield Rifles

Bayonets are around, you might get one here on a WTB forum. You might get the rest too but it would be expensive if original. The bayonets aren't reproduced as far as I know.

Pics of your rifle will help for identification too...
    Regards, Jim

Ebay has everything. Just wait for your price, you'll get it eventually.

That appears to be the 1898 sight, one of several different types fitted to this model over the years.
The Gun Digest Book of Firearms Assembly/Disassembly Part IV - Centerfire Rifles has an entry on this rifle, with plenty of photgraphs. 19th-c military manuals tend to be light on diagrams.

Nice...love to see the rest too. There's bags of threads about parts and types of sights right here without needing outsourced books...if you have a look.

The correct ones cost a fortune, a repro is much cheaper, usable and looks great. You could also use a Kerr, M1907, or the tropical sling for Kragicon. All are available, including the originals for several hundred USD. Which do you want directed to?
