    Standard Products M1 Carbine #2,172,XXX

Hello, back again with a estate sale find. This STDP M1icon Carbine has a Type III RMC bolt, VG bore 12/43 UEF barrel, type IV H.I. hammer, type IV safety, type III mag catch, type I NPM rear sight, original S-HB type II low wood stock/hand guard and other parts seen correct for this rifle. Wood has a coat of varnish and no rebuild marks has a few dents but serviceable and sound. Butt plate has a black paint on it. Finish is good to very good original parkerizing My main concern is the receiver has been ground on at front of magwell sides and corner. More than half the thickness is removed down by pin. I think to ease removal from the varnished stock? Collector value is one dilemma but how is it for a shooter and what price would anyone give with the liability of this damage? Any help appreciated pictures attached

Looks to me like its the trigger housing that's been ground, not the receiver. The trigger housing is easily replaceable if necessary. I'd just use it the way it is and if it breaks, then replace it.

Silly me, I know it was a trigger housing. I just wanted to have a more dramatic reaction to push my agenda to low ball the sale.

You mean how high will I go. I'm interested in this for my self. I'm thinking $600 tops. A new trigger housing and assembling has got to be $150 for a non gunsmithing buyer. These carbines are over priced IMO. back to you my friend. How high will you go?

taking parts off of the old trigger housing and putting them the new one is very simple, even a caveman can do it, plenty of youtube help there also. And still if a person is not comfortable they can ship it to me and I would do it, you just pay postage. But really, it can be done in a few minutes.

Might it be possible the stock is warped?
Guess I just don't understand why one would grind off that much TH metal??

Plenty of labor and cost to properly strip off the varnish and refinish that stock.
    Is the swivel missing?

Possibly a re-welded housing or could it be he had tried to put some kind of homemade 'happy switch' in it?
