    Bezard Compass (pic heavy)

I got this a while ago for a reasonable price and the English instructions are rather limited the other set appears to go into detail but as I do not speak that tongue doesn't help me understand the compass.
It appears to be pretty well made & unused has the fold up ruler with a directional arrow on the angle cover which apparently you can map gradients etc and do over the hill distance calculations don't know about that one beyond my mathematical expertise.
Just a thought and those with experience what approximate build date is this one as I cannot seem to get an accurate fix on its age. What are they worth new if some of our European personnel have an idea. TIA

It LOOKS to me like a pre-prismatic 'marching compass'. Similar to those big heavy duty black shellac cased things the Army used to use, with a mirror in the opening roof bit - as shown here. But this also has an inclinometer (photo 6) built in so you can tell the gradient you are walking up. It shows the angle in degrees as a ratio. Alas, not a lot of use if you live in Cumberland because whither directing your course, you were always walking uphill

That would be interesting to see. Unless you had the BIG rucksack on your back...
