    Smith Corona 1903A3 correct barrel??

    Hello,
I recently bought a SC 1903A3 rifle that a fellow bought many years ago from the NRA - it's still in the box.
His son, after the passing of his dad decided to make it into a "SHOOTER" LOL!
He started the project himself by removing the front sight and sanding all the the marking off the barrel - He decided it was too much work and took it to a gunsmith I met at a local gun show. I was talking to him about a pistol he had for sale and slipped in the question "do you have any 1903a3 stocks?? He said yes.
I made a deal for it & want to try & restore it.
from the serial number 48372xx found out from info that Birth date is Jan 1944 of the receiver - I looked at Vic info and closest SN in their list to mine is 4837202 (around 50 short of mine) and it has an 11-44 barrel. Most of the late rifles had that dated barrel. Way later SNs had barrels dated all over the place??
I guess my question is, by that time notification had been planned in Dec 1943 to end production in Feb 44 for Rem & and am sure SC had the info.
Beings all my info has been lost on my barrel -What would be a correct barrel date for my rifle to make it correct??
    thanks for the help.

Just give them some time. It's the weekend after all, there are several that can answer this off the top of their head and they'll be along. If you go through some of the posts in the forum reference these, you'll see who they are. You could also then PM them...I expect they'll be along though.
    Regards, Jim

Did you look at the ViShooter table that is composed of rifles reported by different owners, or this one? A 11-44 barrel, if correct, would be a replacement.

Nov of '43 would be the correct date. The correct barrel was lost with the modification.

nov-44 would be a replacement barrel.
10 to 11 of 43 would be the original barrel.
