    M1 options for a newbie

Hello all, I've been lurking for quite a while, avoiding interacting because my knowledge of Milsurps is infantile. As the title says, I've always had an interest for the iconic M1icon but no idea as to what is a good maker. I've looked up some things but the abundance of manufacturers is dizzying. I'm looking for an "average" I guess. Thank you in advance for your help.

There's only four prime U.S. contractors and I think three offshore...a few aftermarket types that I would avoid. If you read through the forum, write down points or manufacturers that you want to note and study up on specifics... Then you can look for one. Just get a clean shooter, forget about a "Correct" collector.

Personally, I'd go for a real GI carbine. It will go up in value. Parts are readily available. All parts are interchangeable. And Its a real piece of history.
When they tell you to behave, they always forget to specify whether to behave well or badly!

Pardon me I read the wrong thing, gave the wrong answer. There are nine prime contractors and a dozen or two aftermarket. Yes, look at the military ones here and read up. Once you have your list...you can buy informed.

Welcome to the Carbine forum. You can pretty much get an answer on anything carbine here. You might consider getting a book or two. There is a carbine site worth looking at. It is the online updated version of the Carbine Club.

    Again, welcome.

You better reconsider that, there's a massive thread about the problems they have and lack of being sorted out. Look at another carbine.
