Inland Bolt

Anyone seen an Inland Bolt like this ? Looks to have an S with Serif on lug.

I had one with a 7 on the lug that was opposite the IO 1 that was on the other lug

First thought.............. Where is Newscotlander??

See that it's a pointed right lug.
Also see that the I.O. stamp is the later style with the O being taller and narrower than the early rounded O.
I don't know if Stan Pro made the later pointed lug flat bolts.
Have read that early Stan Pro bolts were stamped on the big right lug up to a certain number.
Riesch 6th edition says some were just a S. Followed by a S and number up to S43 on right lug. Then moved their stamp to the small left lug, stamping from S44 thru S53. BUT the few Stan Pro bolts I have here have a different style S aka Sans Serif.

May be as easy an explanation as a rarely seen inspectors stamp on a very early pointed bolt.
More than likely not correct because carbines can't be that easy. I did manage to burn off the afternoon looking for a correct answer for you but missed my favorite tv show while doing so.

Just curious Rusty.......... Is the proof punch in the usual spot on top of the bolt?

How could it be Standard Products when its obviously Overton for Inland?

The OI marking on Inland bolts is for Monarch Marking Systems according to the WarBaby books. I don't have any Inland bolts marked S.I. but those are shown as by Standard Computing Scale. It might be in there, but didn't see any reference for bolt transfers with Std. Products. - Bob

I took another look and found that Saginaw Steering Gear Division of GM manufactured bolts for Std. Products, and also that Inland supplied a few bolts to Std. Products in 1943 - the record shows there were only (6) bolts in that transfer. Maybe the OP's bolt is one of those (6) and Std. Pro. put the S on it ?

I never said it was a Stan Pro bolt.
I did toss around some thoughts.
Main one being that some early Stan Pro bolts were said to be just stamped with a S on the right lug.

Fact is, it is a bolt made by Monarch and marked for Inland.
Another fact is it's a pointed right lug, found in Inlands serial block 4,8 to about 5,075 (after which most original Inlands will be found with the round bolts, with very little overlap of flat-round bolts) after 5,075 mil.

My thought is that this is a early version of the pointed lug style bolt and that this S may be some type of in house inspection stamp.
I have no proof. I haven't found another like it, but am looking forward to hearing from someone who may know more about it.
