LOL! Actually, that was the only time I have used it to fend off two legged goblins. I have used my HD carbines for 4 legged predators: feral dog packs and coyote.

I did that a lot (making holes in cans) for the two years (2012 to 2014) I had the Homeland Security dam protection contract, especially in the summer. It was 430 PM to 430 AM. Driving around in the wilderness gave me lots of opportunity to plink. I was actually very practiced at snap shooting with the Carbine and the AR back then.

A guy could almost set up a range of sorts out in that area you showed us. Reactive targets could be placed in safe backstop areas and you could have practice at dismount and engagement...you sure had room there...

    IMR,
If your experiencing a break in and fear for you and/or your families safety......... Shoot Away! But first cover your *** and know your state laws...... some say hollow points are illegal for carry, but ok for home defense, many many variations on the law books in the states, I believe New York's AG claims you have no right to have a taser or stun gun for home defense. A Jurys perception should be of great concern if you ever have to use your gun in self-defense and find yourself facing charges. If your gun is loaded with Brand X's Ammo named " Waste Your Intruder" is in a graphically decorated box of spilled blood and guts..... wouldn't weigh well in that perception department. In fact there are ammo companies that have changed their packaging for this very reason. There have been examples of prosecutors focusing on the hardware used by defendants. They try to overcome the self-defense argument by painting a picture of the armed citizen as blood-thirsty. In one particular case the defendant used a certain brand of hollow-point ammo that came in a box featuring a picture of a hawk or eagle talon. It appears that the tactic was successful and contributed to the conviction of an armed citizen who argued that he fired to save his life.

If you find yourself having to shoot, expect to be taken into custody (along with any and all arms you have). News and papers will be reporting the shooting and the public will expect to see someone and these weapons in custody. Could be cleared up in short order, but can also become a long drawn out expensive investigation until all facts are argued. Say they find you innocent and you get released, Do you think your arms will be returned in the same condition as when they were confiscated? Very doubtful.

I'll do whatever is necessary to protect my family, my own safety and my property.
For me, because of how today's laws can be interpreted I make a point in NEVER revealing I have a game plan, especially in writing.

Lastly never underestimate the SH*T YOUR PANTS factor a intruder will experience just from hearing the report of a shotgun on a dark night!

Don't overlook that Victory revolver when in need.

    Cheers,
    Charlie-painter777

There was a quarry area on one of my routes. I actually did dismount and engage drills there with handgun and rifle flavor of the week.

I'd sure go through a lot of ammo through a work week I'd think. But drills would be spot on...

My brother was involved in a CC shooting trying to stop an armed robbery with victims badly injured by pukes. His number one concern was what was behind the bad guys and he had to constantly move to make sure a miss wouldn't pick off a bystander. The newspaper story had him standing in the middle of the street shooting out the back window as the pukes drove away. None of it was correct, all of it was BS and the bogus news almost got him tossed in jail. You don't get a chance to tell the public what REALLY happened in the paper, they just move on with more stupid news. My advice is don't get involved unless it is to save your life or your family, then who cares? What happens happens. Just be aware that every shot you fire has your name on it. Carrying on about what you might or might not do has no bearing on reality. Reality sucks and it sometimes takes honest people to places they don't belong.

After 7 years military and 20+ years as a full time LEO (including many years as firearms and tactics instructor, I truly understand it use of deadly force is solely to protect your life or someone else's. Terminate a immediate LETHAL threat. In all other cases be a good witness.
