    Polish Radom VIS 35 question

I have a three lever VIS 35 that I have owned for many years. It is a beautiful weapon that I enjoy shooting occasionally. Had it out today and there was a problem that I just can't figure out.

The hammer drop safety works fine when the chamber is empty, however it will not engage and drop the hammer when a round is in the chamber. I have not fired it quite some time and it has always been meticulously cleaned after each outing, so it is not dirty.

    Any ideas?

Have you tried different ammo manufacturers? I don't know anything about the Radom but it sounds like if it works on an empty chamber it has to be the rounds. Perhaps the case is a tad longer than it should be and stoping the slide closing that last thou.

That was my thought when I first read this. I'd think the slide is just back far enough that things are binding...maybe just a touch of adjusting the working parts...?

Thanks for the video, Jim. Appreciate it very much. Great research.

My problem is different, however. The hammer drops easily when the chamber is empty. Will not drop when a round is in the chamber. Don't understand why this is the case, as the lever does not touch the bullet at all.

I'm just wondering if it's because the slide is back just a smidge more than when empty and something that will pass when empty is now binding. I have a thumb safety like that (sort of)on a 1911A1 series '80. In one frame it's smooth and another it hooks up. More manipulation has it working better...wish I was closer to have a look see...

At one time we had quite a few of these Radoms come in, captured from the many warring parties in Bosnia etc etc. There were a few assorted variants but they did seem to be well made. I don't know how interchangeable the parts were were but the quality was good.

Could be that too...I just think something internal needs a touch with a needle file.
