Winchester '44 barrel & stock markings

I have a '44 Winchester with what I think is a replacement barrel. The only stamp/marking on the barrel is a W on the side of the gas piston housing. At some point it was filled in with white paint. I have not been able to find reference to similar markings online. It seems most Winchester barrels are marked on the top with a W about 4 inches from the end. Has anyone seen this type of mark and placement?

The other mystery is that my stock is a pot belly with a W in the sling slot and no other marks anywhere. Is this a standard Type 5 Win. stock? I'm assuming it's a replacement since these weren't made until '45.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, the slide is for an M2, how much else? Is there a date on the barrel? Or just the single mark?
    Regards, Jim

Thanks for the welcome. There is just the one mark--no dates etc.

I guess my main concern is that this is an authentic Winchester barrel rather than a post war no-name/ unknown maker barrel made to look like a Winchester.

So, I have an M2 slide, stock and barrel on a '44 receiver with no arsenal marks. Most of the parts are correct Winchester. I'm thinking this carbine was put together by a collector rather than as an arsenal rebuild. Think that's an accurate assessment?

The stock is for sure not Winchester and I have some doubts about the barrel too. Winchester used integral gas cylinders, does this one look integral?
