Question Leather carry handles for sniper chest

The leather carry straps on my No4T sniper cheat have been in poor/incomplete condition for years. Does anyone have the dimensons and weight/type of leather to make a good set of replacement straps?

    Thanks!

    Hal,
I found when mine needed replacing, I did each one at a time from the old ones already on the chest.
I must admit I did obtain several thicknesses of leather from a saddlery locally, after failing to take their advice on the thickness required, I wanted a more heavy duty leather.

Of course that brings all the problems of trying to fold it and drill or punch through for the holes to align to screw holes already on the chest.

If its authenticity you want and keep it the same without making fresh holes, my strong advice is to take an existing strap with you and ask the experts which tan thickness they advise.
I didn't take the measurements as it would be of little use, as I believe each case was tackled as an individual job by the then makers. Could be wrong of course, but thats how it seemed to me. I attach a blue print I used at the time, hope it helps.

Brian, sounds like a sensible plan to me, especially after the trauma I had replacing mine

The handles on my chest have been replaced with a couple of canvas machine gun ammo belts. Who knows when the leather handles were replaced but seems like that was a good idea actually I think canvas weathers and wears better then leather. Everything else on the rig is serial numbed matching including the chest, scope, case, mount and rifle. Ray
