Hi Mike, the stain was just basic walnut and mahogany wood stain from Bunnings, little bottles with green lids. I'm away from the workshop now but there was nothing flash abut it.

Roy, thanks for posting the photos of your work. Very impressed by you ability! The rifle looks great.
Did you cut the old fore end and the replacement front end on a jig to get the angle correct ? Or did you plane it to shape? The fit is perfection!

I cut on a jig and a chop saw then gave it a skim with a block plane and a little fine sandpaper on a block
