Hello Folks! A bit of an oddball "1895" for your enjoyment

New guy here but not to the firearms collecting/shooting/dealing/etc...I picked up this guy sort of sight unseen and it's a weird one. I'm guessing it was clobbered together in a large shipment years ago? Couldn't find any import marks on it anywhere but I didn't strip the stock off. I'm accustom to finding them on a barrel or actions.

Looks like M38 stock with a really nice 1895 sitting in it. I looked everywhere to see if there were any programs where they were intentionally refinished this way and came up with nothing. Doesn't feel like a "bubba job" as the action, chamber and barrel still have cosmo in them.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't call it a bubba job because he did no harm to either piece unless he had to fit the stock a bit. Both being small rings, they are probably just good matches for each other and he needed a replacement stock and the 38 was available..

If you look at P.81 of "Crown Jewels" by Dana Jones you will see that the Swedes did indeed manufacture early m/38s by cutting down existing m/96 long rifles and fitting them into new m/38 stocks.

As Aragorn suggests, it seems that the unknown creator applied the same solution to an M95 barrelled action.

That reminds me, Mike had a Turk Mauser in a Swede stock at the Oaks gun show. Asked me to tell him what was wrong with it and until I flipped it around and saw the disk, it looked good. They had to have increased the channel for that one as the Turk is a large ring.

Thanks for the input, All! I like the feel of it and for the $100 I have into it, I figured I did fine.
