    Used brass sources

Trying to secure more used 30 Carbine brass to clean and reload to feed my newly acquired NPM M1icon. Is any old military Lake City brass still around or is that just a pipe dream? I just purchased 200 pieces of new Great Lakes brass and the price was a bit salty. Any direction on how best to locate 30 Carbine brass at a reasonable cost would be appreciated. I do watch Gunbroker and I'm going to try some local gun shows, is the CMPicon a resource?

The CMPicon forums as it will occasionally show up for sale. The CMP sold a lot of Vietnam era vintage Lake City carbine ammo a few years ago.

We appearently never crossed paths or you would have been sunk. I was part of the Prarie Navy flying P2V Neptunes. We did good work - the closest sub was about 500 miles and it was on display in chicago.

Where in Colorado Springs? I'm down on the south side.

I see used carbine brass for sale periodically on the CMPicon ammo for sale board - usually around $10 per hundred (and mostly commercial brass) plus shipping. I have nearly 200 casings myself - when I have over 200 that's where they'll be posted in bags of 100... I'd guess that Lake City won't be very common - mine are either PPU or Aguila (the PPU brass looks first rate - my opinion....).

I see carbine brass posted on CMP every few weeks - check daily and you should find all you need... I'd also say that's the place to check for carbine parts as well.

Prairie Submarine = ICBM Launch Control Center. A little Air Force humor.

Lol, that may be what I have to do... the Armscor brass I have looks rather thin. Commercial loads from Remington, Hornady and maybe Winchester white box will yield decent brass.

I agree, that way the source is known and the brass will be good. Use one headstamp and you'll always be fine. If you can get a case for consumption and start shooting it, loading as well and you'll seem to have brass forever.

Best value for the dollar is PPU. Good ammo, priced reasonably, quality brass. My current lot is Aguila because I have a lot of it, not because it's great.
