    SHTLE III

I posted the WS mark of this rifle previously and no one really knew what it was. Now that I have the rifle in hand there are many more markings to post. Looks like it was a FTR but the nosecap, forestock, bolt, rear sight, and receiver are all matching. Has Mag cutoff. Brass Butt Plate. Looks to be original stock disc. A couple marks that repeat themselves are W, C, and Broad Arrow. Any information would be appreciated.

The very small marks are all inspection marks and have nothing to do with the one on the barrel ring. Neat stock disc markings...

I didn't think they did I was just hoping they could help tell the story of this rifle.

The ones that tell more are the stock markings and the rebuild stamps. Interesting the marking on the stock socket has been embellished at a point...right side.

The FR With Broad Arrow over I on left band I assume means FTR India 1939. What about the FR on the stock in front of the L Broad Arrow over S and A in a circle?

    Barrel Matches as well

If it was rusty they did a great job of cleaning it up. It doesn't seem to be cut.

What I just read was the asterisk stopped being used in the 1920s to indicate rust in the bore. By the 1930s it was an inspection mark but was not a mark of rust. Can anyone else confirm this.

Somehow I left out that the stock is matching at the forestock as well.

The markings on the stock forward of the brass marking disk are also Indian.
