    An "interesting" Scottish newspaper article.

I came across this article online, by chance, and although a couple of years old it does make interesting reading. Quite where the paper found their "firearms experts" I don't know.

Police reveal there are 277,000 guns in Scotland as they warn of thriving black market trade in firearms - Daily Record

Some of the comments following the article seem appropriate, in response.

I can understand restoring a deactivated gun to fire depending on what was done or not done to it but a replica? How do you make a replica fire? They aren't real guns.

All I can say is I'm glad I don't live in Englandicon. Great place to visit, don't want to live there.

It really depends on the replica (much as it depends on the deactivation). For example are AK-47 airsoft guns which with some minor modifications can become a fully functioning AK-47 (I know someone who works in the Firearms Lab in Canadaicon and they were telling me about it). There is also a certain replica pistol that again with some minor modifications became a fully functioning pistol.

Why would you take anyone serious who doesn't know the difference between "bullets" and "ammunition"?

Thing is, he doesn't know the difference between 7076 and 6065...or what military grade is... The ones they sell here are different measurements and off sizes. We already thought of this stuff here. Not as easy as he pretends it is. Certainly not here anyway.
    Regards, Jim

In the U.K. it is illegal to sell an airsoft/replica to a member of the general public and it is also illegal to purchase such an item, if you are a member of the general public. If you wish to do so, you would be required by law to join an airsoft club or certain other prescribed clubs/organisations.

In the video the chap states that any replica that is made out of aluminium is suitable for conversion. So if the replica happens to have an aluminium barrel, is he suggesting that this is perfectly fine for use with live rounds??? I would suggest that it's not a good idea to even think about doing it.

watch it again. note the green tape on the pistol grip and orange muzzle (beginning of video) + "kill" written on the inside of the ejection port cover (3min 12 sec) of the airsoft gun.

the use of chapstick is pure genius.

if you are impatient skip to around the 10 min 30 mark.
