I have several USGI mags that I keep as part of my display, and many Korean ones that I use monthly at the range with out a problem. The Korean ones are a little thinner metal, with the 15 rounders having a U on them, and the 30s with UU on them. I load all 30 rounders to 27 rounds max, same as I did in Nam.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. This old post shows a nice collection:

    BTW
I don't use 30's very often but happened upon a box of all J marked 30's years ago that I've had very good luck with.

    Cheers,

By down loading to 27 rounds do your 30 round mags function properly with standard mag releases on older M1s? I have had an occaisional failure to feed with full 30 round mags but none after a few rounds are fired. I've been going to load up my 30 rounders to 25 and do a field test to see if the misfeeds stop.

I still think it would be be too Heavy and if your Mag Catch is Worn it won't feed properly...Get you a Type 4 Mag Catch if you use 30 Rounders and if you don't want to because your Carbine is all Correct it still doesn't matter. Just keep the correct original one you have on it then when you find yourself Not wanting to shoot 30's anymore which will probably happen just put your Correct one back on your Carbine. Fin

That's why I want to get some more 15 round mags, and of course, a new Shooter that has a type 4 mag catch so I don't have to fiddle with my NPM. Lol. A much better solution that altering a rifle that appears to be all factory original, don't you think???

Your technically not altering it...your just removing the Mag Catch and putting in one that will help you shoot 30's...If you been Shooting it your eventually going to have replace something in it. Have you gotten another one yet ?
