Anything would be better than his Norton Commando! For a start it needs a Triumph engine.....

    Er.........., the Bren Gun Carrier!
Deary me BP........ Nortons with Triumph engines or vice verca. How to ruin a good Norton - or a Triumph! A bit like a VW Beetle beach buggy. Or, now that I think of it, a target rifle from a chopped No4T

Stencollector, are you able to summarise for us the main differences between a Bren Gun carrier and a Universal carrier, please?

Prior to the Universal carrier, there were specific models like the Bren or the scout carriers. They had stowage for those specific roles. With the Universal carrier, it was set up for all of the previous models by incorporating their brackets. The earlier models generally had sloped side armour or partial armour in the back, whereas the universal carrier had the backs high and square.

The name "Bren gun" carrier stuck with them though, and they were commonly referred to as that. The Universal carriers did have different stowage for dedicated roles such as various mortars, flame thrower, MG carrier and others, but always on the same hull and generally utilizing the same holes in the armour.

I have owned a few of them over the years, but always liked the mk1 model best. It had early features like the bracketry for the Boys rifle, and an antiaircraft stem for the Bren. I always kind of liked the naivety of the early one.

There were lots of old Bren carriers scattered on Ashan ranges in Malaya plus lots of old Japaneseicon tank hulks used as targets for the old 3.5 rocket launchers we used there (we never got the Charlie G 84mm). They were all well knocked about with very little rust due to the climate. The range people say that they were all left behind when we surrendered, used by the Japanese and then left again in '45. We'd already established that tracked vehicles were useless there so they all became hard targets! But they were instantly recognisable of course. They do look nice.

In the UKicon they cannot be used on the roads because there's no separate and independent parking brake. But I'm sure it wouldn't take a mechanical genius to fit an independent transmission brake

They are only examples that I've seen advertised on eBay in the past, some time ago, in which the vendor has suggested that they were for Bren and I don't believe that they were U.K. based. I haven't seen them recently and I didn't respond to the listings.

They are currently listed ,and they are going for @110.00 plus $30.00 shipping . The vendor has a or best price request . If you want one start at $100.00 and let him counter offer you should be able to settle for $108.00 to $110.00. They seen to work as per a You-Tube video. If they arrange the rims correctly in the mag. I do not know . Anyway it will look good with my Bren Gun .

I got mine from the Bulgarian dealer for $110 on an offer but it's unidentified at this time. All I know is, it's a CZ .303 loader and not a ZB39.
