Looking back over some of the pictures I have saved on my phone, is it a return spring that I see attached between the rear mount and tge scope? I know that when fired, the scope moves within the mount from recoil. The Unertl scopes produced later on had a return spring to prevent the user from having to manually re set the scope. But the spring I am seeing in some pictures does not look like it would be strong enough. If not for that, then what was it purpose?
I will post at least one picture, once I figure out how.

In case you had not seen it, I posted very detailed pictures of the No. 1 Mk.III rifle with the Whitehead mount in this thread here: https://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=59717
The spring you are referring to acts to push the scope tube against the adjustment dialer from top and is mounted to the scope ring. This has nothing to do with recoil. The scope is meant to be pushed back manually (= by hand) after each shot.

I appreciate the reply. About an hour or so after posting this question someone on a facebook group explained it to me. My only experience with external adjustment scopes is the reproduction (by MVA) Malcolm on my sharps so I am still treading into new territory.
I have seen some of those puctures before, though I do not believe that I have seen your post yet. They have found their way into various blogs, facebooks posts and pintrist pages with no credit given as to the source. Good to know where they came from.

Please point the blogs out to me who stole my pictures, would appreciate that. And pinterest has always been a mystery to me. I wonder where they got anything from?
