    Question 1911 serial number C26069?

    Hello, new member with a question. I have a .45 1911 serial number C26069, know it was made in 1915 but would like any other info someone might know. Its all o4iginal, I have the original grips put away in the safe. Handed down from my great grandfather. Any info would be appreciated.

    1915??

    James,
    I looked up the serial no. on military Colts and it doesn't appear as a military Colt.
    Could it be the C stands for commercial ?? How did you find it was made in 1915 ??

    The book that might very well have the shipping info for your commercial pistol is The Government Models, by William Goddard. If it was in the Colt records, it should be listed. Won't be much more than a one line entry, showing "shipped to" and date of shipment. Don't have my copy handy, sorry!

    Goddard's book has serial numbers C19922 - C28371 as purchased by the Frenchicon Government and shipped 20-21 December 1915.
