it sounds like some pictures are in order. specifically both sides of the wrist and action plus the nocksform and barrel area (with the handguard off).

RBruce: Certain Ishapore No. 1 rifles built with salvaged receivers were scrubbed on the right side but there would also be specific markings placed on the left cheek. What else do you see on the rifle?

Is there a small NRF or SSA stamped on the rear of the receiver beside the bolt way? If so it was made by either the National Rifle Factory or Standard Small Arms and is one of the peddled scheme rifles.

Not my rifle. Considering buying it. Left side is FTR 1945, receiver and nose piece 29272 over Y. Also, looking for a No.1 shooter if you know of one.

It it's "FR 1945" on the left side of the butt socket, it's likely an Indian FTR...all the more likely because of the Y suffix rather than prefix to the serial number. SSA & NRF rifles still had the cypher and date on the right side.

If it's been filed out or linished clean you'll soon see/feel by using a steel rule and a micrometer.
