    Sniper butt for sale eBay

What do people think. For me it's a genuine butt which was on a rifle - the rifle no looks like it's been there for a long time. but it's then been sniperised. The scope no (very early) stamping looks a bit odd, although I'm not a font expert and people would be able to shed light on that. It's the S51 which really doesn't look clever tho.

Agreed.......one thing you could always rely on was the 1/4" Contractor code of S51 from H&H, it was as sharp as a razor. Unless someone comes up in the meantime stating they have taken it apart for whatever reason, selling off the bits, I would leave it IMHO

This would be totally acceptable......note the sharp quality on both examples

Rifle Ser No. 87511 can be traced by those with the information on the serials, the S51 looks nothing like those pictured by Gil nor mine, take the sage advice from Gil "Buyer Beware"

I own the original 51 from the S51, taken along with many other odds and sods by me from the inspection bay at the old factory in the 80's while researching and being taken around by the last surviving member of the wartime staff. Personally, would say that it is a genuine clapped, oil soaked ex Indian butt from a very early Maltby or a pre '3' prefix BSA number. The early Mk1 tele number seems to confirm this. But I stand to be corrected of course

    Peter,
Probably agree, only thing I would be curious about would be the condition of the crows foot next to the contract marking, which isn't battered at all, which I would have expected to be in a similar condition to the S51. As you say its down to the buyer and an element of doubt, and may turn up to be correct. The wrist number holds the key!!

Yep, I agree with that Gil but wonder why anyone would want/need to big up something that's already 'genuine'(?).
