    Saw an odd rifle davertised

    Hi All,

Saw a 1941-43 RAF MKII The Swift Training Rifle advertised for sale.
Is it something I should look into and what was it used for?

    Thanks

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Who is "daver" and what does he do?

IIRC - The Swift rifle was a Mock Gun that was used by Britishicon to teach proper sight picture and recorded trainee's efforts by making pin pricks on miniature target located just in front of device.

I'd say yes they are worth having and restoring. It's another 'Enfield' variation (?) that deserves a place in every true Enfield collection. Not so much a DP rifle but a basic training aid. You might want to stop at just the rifle because if you decide to collect the remainder of the kit and accessories it can become a bit of a mission creep theme. Mind you there is a hard core of collectors and no, I'm not one of them although I have oened1 and sold off two on behalf of others. Simple to restore too using basic metalwork and woodwork skills.

They were made very close to here by a company based at Cumnor on the way into Oxford

This video will probably tell you a fair bit about it if it is, if it is in fact what you are describing. Unfortunately it was pulled from the auction so no hammer price is out there for it. The idea seems a bit goofy to me but it's the kind of thing I'd love to have.

I assisted in the sale of a full kit of the stand and several parts guns, target equipment also recently. They're hard to find in good shape and almost impossible to find complete. The kit is scattered and usually incomplete as well. You should be ready to restore if you find one, but we can help there. They don't need to be too expensive...
    Regards, Jim

While on the subject of the Swift...
Does anyone have a spare target box?
Mine is a bit tatty an I'd like to upgrade it.
    Photo available if needed.
    TIA
