Has anyone been following receiver prices?

I've spent some time lately following the sale prices of receivers and have to admit I'm a bit shocked at some of the prices I'm seeing ...

A recent sale of a Inland Hand stamped 1 serial 6,734,3XX sold March 19 for..........
    Ready for this? $906.75

March 17..... Rock Ola 4,6 mil for $499

Feb 12.......... Beautiful WRA 6,5 mil for $670

    March 11.... NPM U 4,3 mil for $450

Other makers in Misc shape to include Stan Pro.. $430. SG... $356. Inland 6,2 mil $425 etc.

A over anxious friend who got caught up in a bidding frenzy left a mixer he picked up at an estate sale with me to look over. He is now the new owner of a cracked gas cylinder and stripped piston nut on a Inland barrel.
The carbine came from the late 60's NRA/DCM sale, more than likely straight to a Bubba.
He needs to recoup some of his $$ loss and I said I'd help.
Even though it's a mixer I have to admit it seems a shame to part it out.
It does have a WRA springtube receiver in the 1,126 mil range, that should help get some funds back, but it's gonna hurt.

Be careful all and take a good flash light to sales/shows with you.

I think in general Charlie it is the way of things with these WW weapons no matter what @ 15 years ago you could have gotten a reasonable MkIII 303 for 250-300 dollars now a cruddy bogger they want 650, the old adage of they do not make them anymore is true but you have to admit some stuff is just to much to ask for what it is. I used to take a couple of bore gauges and loupe & small torch if on the hunt for a 303 not allowed anymore 303's now.
There was a front pad for a T that just sold for over $395.60 dollars AU so imagine putting a T together at those prices.....

Charlie, were any of those listed on-line and maybe still have pictures available to look at? I'd kind of like to see the hand stamped Inland receiver. Thanks! - Bob

A small handful recently hit the market that I think came out of Samco... J&G Sales now has one Inland for $500, bit high but I suspect it will sell. When those showed up I looked at one to possibly build a gun out of but just way too expensive, better off getting a Blue Sky or something and having the CMPicon rebarrel and repark it for you. Has your friend considered getting a new barrel instead at what might be less loss than parting it even with high receiver prices?

I can understand that the guns are hard to find, but you're going to be in it way more to build a mixmaster now than you would just buying a refurbished gun.

    Hello Cinders,
Some years back here the CMPicon sold off Barreled receivers. I'm sure that some of these receivers are being sold off from that sale after owners realized how expensive the "correct parts" would cost. But I fear many are being parted out from non matching complete carbines. Seems a shame but I guess is the current owners option or choice. Many of us feared back then that the B/R sale may result in a for profit sale off later. I came upon a Rock Ola BR from a friend and have bought needed parts for years, most gathered before this big $$ increase, but still will have more in it than it may be worth as a put together. But I knew this going in to that project, it was worth it to me to have a version of a RMC. Maybe 1 day I'll take the time to assemble it now that everything needed has been gathered.

I always appreciate your input Mate

    Hello USGI,
I used the ADVANCED SEARCH OPTION on GB, Clicked on COMPLETED AUCTIONS then searching M1icon carbine Receivers and came up with the list in the link below. Roughly halfway down you'll see the Inland Hand Stamped 1. I followed feed back on it thru both the seller and buyer and couldn't see any left for either.

    Receiver Link:
    http://www.gunbroker.com/All/Complet...14&Condition=3

Look at this Stan Pro that sold for $300, bought by Sam T Bob. Pay attention to the crack on the upper right side/behind where the right bolt lug seats... Pic # 4. Also..... it may just be me or my pc screen but in Pic #8, doesn't that left edge look bent? There the split would be around the left edge on top.

Forget it Bob, I just refreshed that auction link and it must have timed out, no longer available.............

    Cipherk,
I'll get back after dinner about why my buddy wasn't interested in a replacement barrel and what happened to the old one, Actually entertaining after the tempers settled down.

Charlie, I'm a day or two late getting back to the forum. Your link still worked for me, and I found the Hand Stamped Inland from Joe Salter. I studied the pictures before reading the description, and decided the condition wasn't all that great. Then read the seller's description and thought it to be pretty accurate. Eleven bids starting at $100 and then went crazy from there - hard to believe that final price! - Bob

Now need to go look at the others - an interesting search, for sure.

A few hundred more and you could have bought a complete carbine.
That word....... RARE.......... seems to make em dig deep.
Reminds me of Church when I was younger: "Dig deep in to your pockets my brethren"

Remember that super RARE M1A1icon Airborne Paratrooper oiler marked II that reportedly sold for over $500 on Ebay 4 or 5 years ago?

you got to learn where and when to shop. We have a local web site called the "Outdoor Trader" and while usually gun prices are normal or high you have to be ready to pounce on a deal. A few months ago a guy had a Winchester carbine in, what he called, a Unverisal stock, price was $750. I jumped on it, turned out it is a spring tube Winchester, had it's original T2 stock (cut down to lw during the rebuild) that it came with and 4 GI mags, 1 aftermarket 30 round mag, 120 rounds of ammo and a D tip sling. The "universal" stock was actually a Cadmus folder that I sold for $250+. SO, after you take the stock money out, the value of the extras, I have maybe $425 into my Winny spring tube.

How about this poor sucker who paid $385 for a post war type 3 barrel band worth, maybe $25-$30 at best???? This sale kept going after several people emailed the seller that this was a post war, not a WWII cowles band but seller just pretended not to know or care.

If you look at the bid history the 0000 feed backer stopped at $66 and the ones with low feedback (Newbs) just get caught up in the bidding war showing they are not scared of shelling out the dough it then becomes a matter of principal, 'I'll show him just how much I want this item".......yada yada on it goes.

As stated do your research not just on fleabay but alternate sites I go to 4 or 5 sites when a particular book comes up that I want to add to my library I now just go for H/C's 1st Ed's WWI Australianicon and believe me there are some big prices out there you just have to do the leg work.
I some times wonder if shill bidding goes on to inflate the price but feel that it may be in the minority, you also have to ask the seller questions on the item edit their response and if you feel they are hedging and not being definitive then pass but that goes the other way to if they do not know their product and it is cheaper than what is common then by all means snap it up as long as your sure its legit just be wary of 2nd chance offers.
If I get a second chance offer I will often go back through their feed back to see if this buyer has dealt with the seller before as if you do get a good deal and for the right price you often save those sellers and watch what they have for sale you get the trust thing going and it works out well
And yes I have been caught a couple of times when I first started the flea bay journey but as my feed back is in the 0000's now not any more as I ask direct questions if they do not respond or give a fluffy explanation then I keep the wallet shut.
    Simple as that.......
