    Sten Mags in storage....

Picked up these today from a mate, just wonder if anyone else has seen them in this storage wrap? its what we call denso tape and used to wrap parts on a ship that are open to the elements such as pipe joins hydraulic pipe unions etc.

The mags are the reduced capacity ones and are used condition. One I can see the remains of Khaki paint.

Looks like a good long term storage, after military? Must be...

Good old Denso tape. Haven't seen it for ages. Is it still made? They are definately not UKicon packed. I suspect that they've been wrapped in that stuff over here/UK

They still make it Peter, haven't used it for some time though, seems strange someone wrapping them that way, maybe there is a Sten somewhere packed the same way ??

I'd guess they were wrapped in India. Maybe after there conversion.

A good theory BP, but killed two birds with one stone last night as I needed the denso tape so unwrapped them, one is a standard mag (no conversion), someone spent some time wrapping them with some care. Mags are nothing special and quite well used etc.

I picked up some 30 rnd Thompson mags that were wrapped up in a similar way but didn't pay too much attention to the stuff that they were wrapped in. Although sold to me as new mags they were in fact used but in good condition. After having a quick look I rewrapped them until I got chance to sort them out properly which I haven't yet. The Thompson mags were in larger bundles, 10 mags per pack, I think? Not sure if the tape is exactly the same?

It’s called Densyl tape here (petrolatum impregnated tape). We use masses of Denso products in the oil industry.

Those Indian converted mags a great. They always work! Some bubbas here pull the brass rods out. There are even YouTube videos of them doing it. I think most of them don’t know the conversion was done to make the mags more reliable. They probably think the reduced capacity was done to comply with some stupid law like they have in California or other parts of the not so free world. Sadly, their mags become the most unreliable because the spring was shortened in the Indian conversion. Their mags and the ammo have to be immaculately clean or they will jam.

I bet those mags smell good, bigduke6. Not as good as napalm or WP, but still pretty darn good.
