    Need a little Mauser help

    Hi Guys,

    I am looking at a 1898 (I thinK).
Where a regular Mauser has "Model 98" this one has "Mauser NSD 18??.
Can't read the last two numbers.
    The receiver ring has Waffenfabrik
    Mauser
    Oberndorf
    and no date.
    Someone here has an answer!!

    Thanks

    Hi Gil

Are you able to put up any photos. Make it a little easier to identify.

I can only see the one pic, and Oberndorf is where the factory was for Mauser. Waffenfabrik is basically rifles made for the army.

I guess I was more puzzled by the "NSD" inscription.. I had looked through Ball's Mauser book and could not find any mention of that particular wording.

Receiver has been under-cut. Very possibly a Turk 98??, but not sure. Needs 3-4 more photos.

It says "Mauser Mod.1910". It's a Model 1910 commercial military rifle (you can see the Germanicon commercial firing/acceptance proofs on the receiver ring forward of the serial number). The receiver ring has a flange extending forward to act as retainer for the rear of the handguard.
