A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. i Wonder how long it was before they were given less Germanic looking uniforms? That photo must have been from imeditley post war.

Austrian yes, but I can't find that exact flag. It sure looks different with them holding #1 rifles...

Tom, this is incorrect. Austria icon

was split into four occupation zones, in which they therefore also mainly used the weapons of the occupying nation. Of course in the British icon

occupation zone they mainly got Enfield SMLE rifles. This is also the origin of the "ÖSTERR. GENDARMERIE" marked No. 1 Mk.III rifles.

Edit: to also answer the original question, the people shown are from the Austrian B-Gendarmerie, the first Austrian Armed Forces post WWII.
