    Parker Hale T4 Stock

    Hi Guys

Does the target stock on the T4 have to fit flush with chamfered parts of the trigger body or does the screw through the back take up the backlash. If not tight would this be the cause of
the stock being slightly off center. I believe thye barrel is meant to be free floating but is also touching the bottom 3/4 inch of the front of the stock.

    Anyone any ideas.

    Regards Chubbs

    Chubbs,
Not 100% certain about your request, but here is what I think you are asking.

The front stock is as you know in two halves. The front part of the stock should just be touching 3/4s of its length.
The bit I think you are elluding too is the wedge part of the trigger, which should touch the back flat piece of steel like a wedge.
If that doesn't answer your question please put up some photos

    Hi Gil
Yes sorry picture paints a thousand words and all that. i'll try again.

It is a one piece forend.
    Attachment 84358

The Heavy taper barrel is off to the left and touching where the arrows indicate.
    Attachment 84360

having had a bit more time to look at it I think a previous owner has tried to remove the forend by pulling it down instead of towards the barrel. I think this has broken off some of the wood at the arrowed notches.
    Attachment 84359

If I put a bit of card board between the butt collar and the rear of stock on the left side the barrel centers but is still touching at the top 3/4" of the forend.
I wondering if I am missing some wood at the trigger wedges.

    Regards Chubbs

    Chubbs,
In order of your photos, I have taken advice from Bill Smallwood ex engineer for Parker Hale and between us we'll find a solution for you:

1st picture is the correct foreend for the T4.

2nd picture it should not be touching the fore end on the side of the barrel channel or on the bottom of the barrel channel. Some times when a Technelegra stock was used, it was over one side more than the other, but not by much, this stock ceased to be used anymore when Technelegra went bust.

3rd picture the locating wedge part of the rear end of the stock looks fine, so not sure why the barrel touches the bottom of the channel, will try to do a drawing of the contact points of the stock to action fitment and put it up for you.

    Hi Gil

I took some photos of the stock when fitted to the action and barrel. Could the rear of the stock butt right up to the butt collar?. the gap seems to be a little uneven.

You ought to be reading up on the forum somewhere all about fitting fore-ends. The fit of the fore-end to the body and breech end of the barrel is the same as the military fitting. From the nocks form forward I don't think your fore-end should touch the barrel. It is my opinion that the rear of the fore-end should bear evenly on the butt socket which it doesn't seem to be doing in photo 1 unless i'm mistaked through camera angle.

I appreciate that it is a P-H conversion, but the rifle is basically a No4 and you'll get more response from the Lee Enfield part of this thread

    Hi Peter

You are correct in that the rear does not fit flush on the butt socket. If the stock is original to the gun, which would be at fault. The rear of the stock or nocks form. Is it just a case of trim the rear end so as that it is even on both sides. Even if that entails a small gap is this permissible on a MK 2 where as it is not on a MK 1.

A small gap..... NO! The fore-end is squeezed upwards in the shallowing taper formed between the butt socket and the 'drawers', the block -where the trigger hangs. You MUST read the article now as it's all been well detailed before

    Hi Guys

Still trying to get my stock fitted. Been trying various things but have observed the following.
I notice that if I shim (.025") the right side at the butt collar the stock lines up nicely.
    Attachment 86513
Would this suggest that the draw on the right side is too tight. I think this would have the effect of pushing the stock to the left.

In regards to the front of the stock fouling the barrel if I shim (.075")where the stock sits flush with the receiver at the front trigger screw. the barrel is then free of the stock. Would this then cause problems towards the rear.
    Attachment 86514

My thoughts are that as long as it is tight at the rear with no movement then this would be acceptable. Peter I have read your article fitting a forend but this differs in that the barrel is free floating. Ie the stock has to run parallel with the barrel and have no up lift.

    Regards Chubbs
