    L42A1 assessment please....

Here are some photos of my L42A1, 'scope, can, and chest.

I tried to get shots of anything that looked pertinent, but feel free to discard any that aren't, and please let me know if you need others.

I purchased this piece directly from Navy Arms in 1994, and haven't fired it, except for function testing with the 'scope off. While slightly dustier, it is as received, warts and all.

I'm looking for an honest assessment/appraisal, with the goal of selling, and sincerely appreciate any help that milsurps.com members might lend in that direction.

    Again, Thank you
    M2Phil

    Hi Phil,
Rifle looks straight, with a few numbering changes which is normal in some cases of use, on a 1944 BSA Shirley rifle.
With a chest/scope and odds and sods they are making here in the UKicon about £7-£7500 and depends on a few extra bits and pieces in the chest. I take it you don't have the scope/IWS mount/cleaning bottle/sling/Cleaning pole?
If not, IMHO thats about it, and I am sure at that you will be making a profit from the days of purchase from Navy Arms. There may be someone else who has sold one recently, but I do know of a firearms dealer asking £11K for one, so that gives you some idea, and dependant really on how much original stuff you have in the chest.

Gil, I would say More in the region of £8000 + in the UKicon, I know a dealer in Ireland who had the Full CES, and the guy it belonged too was an Ex Sniper, also come with a lot of his own gear etc, he put it on his website to see what interest there would be........ in the space of a few hours he had that many calls and emails, he removed the advert....., I would say the eager collector or buyer wouldn't haggle too much regarding a reasonable example.

    Geoff,
Probably right, but I was erring on the side of caution not knowing what was in the chest.
Clearly a decent chest can cost you £500+ before you start, so the bits and pieces soon stack up.
A good bench mark is to sell it on this site and you will always get a fair price for it, from lovers of the rare beast which is the L42A1

Unfortunately, I only have the items in the photos.

    Phil,
No worries, you have a face veil and the scope tin, thats a starter kit right there
You can buy the missing bits and pieces from many sources if that is what you want to do, but I would suggest its worth doing. The sling, cleaning tin and IWS mount often come up on various sites for sale.
    Here's your starter for 10 :

British, Armourers Chamber Cleaning Sticks for .303" & 7.62mm Weapons.

Just seen a L42A1/Charlie G cleaning bottle and brush going on that site for starting price £900 ????

Yes, it's my starter kit all right, and will have to be my finisher kit as well. The price of L42A1 stewardship isn't for the faint of heart.

    Good man!

---------- Post added at 12:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:54 PM ----------

The last two L42A1s that sold on GunBroker went for $9325 and $8k respectively. The former was CES incomplete as yours and the latter was rifle and scope only.

    Beauty of a piece, Sir!
