    Storage in humid climates...

So I'm getting ready to deploy and before I go I need to ensure that my rifles are properly oiled and preserved before I leave for a year... My milsurp rifles sit with the rest of my guns in a safe in my garage in Texas. I'm not too concerned about the barrels and the metal parts as I'll coat those with oil the same as I do with my AK, AR, and R700. What I am concerned about is the wood stocks and how the humidity will effect them. In the safe I have several silica products to help limit the effects. But the gauge I have inside the safe usually says there's a high humidity. What do those more experienced with wood stocks use to protect them when you know you won't touch them for an extended period of time in a humid climate?

Use grease, not oil. Wood stocks should be sealed against moisture with any wood sealing product.
Saw your post about Lee-Enfield Parker Hale sights. Don't have permissions to respond there. Only place I saw Lee Enfield No 4. Parker Hale 5C Aperture Sight was on the evil that is E-Bay at $350US. Same guy(in South Africa) has a 5C for $230US. Sarco is selling incomplete PH sights too.

Unless you suffer a devastating flood and the guns are submerged for a period of time the wood will be fine in a gun safe. A safe isn't a S.E Asian jungle. Wood swells and shrinks with humidity naturally. Don't worry about the wood....

    Not true...

The Parker Hale Rifles Sub-Forum (click here) is a standard public forum open to everyone for posting.

If you can't respond to a thread there, it's not because you don't have permissions, so I'm not sure what your referring to.

    Regards,
    Doug

Living in very humid PA, I've never done anything special for the stocks or had any problems with them. July through September tends to be rather sauna like.

I agree, the stocks should be fine as is. The metal is the only thing to worry about. If oil is applied then that's about it. The dehumidifier suggested might be good.
    Regards, Jim
